terms of hire

the small print. all of it.

these are the terms that govern every unplugged campers hire. they're written to be readable — not to catch you out.

1. the parties

these terms form a hire agreement between unplugged campers ltd ("we", "us", "myles") and the person named on the booking ("you", "the hirer"). the agreement begins when your deposit is paid and ends when the van is returned and checked in.

2. booking and payment

a booking is confirmed when a 25% deposit is received. the remaining balance is due 14 days before your pickup date. if the balance is not received by then, we reserve the right to release the booking.

a £450 security deposit is taken by card pre-authorisation at pickup. this is not a charge — it's a hold that is released once the van has been checked back in with no damage.

3. cancellation

cancellations must be made in writing to myles@unpluggedcampers.co.uk. the following refund policy applies to your deposit:

30+ days before pickupfull deposit refund.
14–30 days before pickup50% deposit refund.
under 14 daysno refund — your deposit becomes a 12-month credit toward any future unplugged campers booking.

if we cancel your booking for reasons within our control, you'll receive a full refund of all amounts paid.

4. driver requirements

the named hirer must hold a valid uk car licence (category b), be aged 25 or over, and have held their licence for at least two years. additional drivers may be named on request — they must meet the same requirements. a copy of the licence (both sides) must be provided at least 48 hours before pickup.

5. pickup and return

vans are available for collection from 2pm on the first day of hire. all vans must be returned by 11am on the last day. late returns will be charged at £25 per hour, or part thereof. if you expect to be late, call myles as early as possible — we'll do our best to be flexible if the van isn't needed for another guest.

6. fuel

vans leave with a full tank of diesel. you're responsible for returning them with the same level of fuel. if a van comes back with less than a full tank, the cost of refuelling will be deducted from the security deposit.

7. insurance and damage

collision damage insurance is included in every hire. you are responsible for the van during the hire period. any damage — including to third-party vehicles or property — must be reported to myles immediately. do not move the van if it has been involved in a collision until you've spoken to us. do not admit liability to any third party.

the security deposit covers damage up to £450. damage beyond that amount will be handled on a case-by-case basis. damage caused by misuse (driving under the influence, off-road use, tidal areas) is not covered by our insurance and the full cost of repair will be the hirer's responsibility.

8. use of the van

vans may be used throughout the uk and ireland. driving outside those territories requires prior written agreement. the vans are not to be used for: sub-letting, commercial purposes, off-road driving, driving on beaches or in tidal areas, or the transportation of more passengers than the van is rated for.

9. smoking

smoking — including vaping — is not permitted inside any van at any time. evidence of smoking inside a van will result in a cleaning charge of up to £250, deducted from the security deposit.

10. pets

dogs are welcome in all four vans. a pet cleaning fee of £20 applies per booking. you're responsible for any damage caused by your pet. please bring a dog bed or blanket — we don't kit the vans out for dogs by default, but the floors are wipe-clean throughout.

11. condition on return

vans should be returned in a clean and tidy condition — the inside doesn't need to be spotless, but it should be in the state you'd expect to find it. the waste tank should be emptied if used. if a van requires excessive cleaning on return, a charge of up to £100 may be deducted from the security deposit.

12. breakdowns and mechanical issues

call myles first. we'll either talk you through it or come out. all vans carry a roadside assistance number as a backup. if a mechanical failure prevents you from using the van through no fault of yours, we'll refund the affected nights in full.

13. liability

we are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from the use of the van beyond what is required by law. you hire the van at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and that of your passengers. we strongly recommend travel insurance for extended trips.

14. governing law

these terms are governed by the laws of england and wales. any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of england and wales.
