we collect what we need to run your booking. we don't sell it, share it unnecessarily, or keep it longer than we have to.
1. who we are

2. what we collect
we collect the following personal data in the course of operating the business:
- identity data — your name and, where relevant, your driving licence details.
- contact data — email address and phone number.
- booking data — dates, van hired, number of guests, any special requests.
- payment data — payment is processed by stripe. we do not store your card details. we retain a record of the transaction amount and booking reference.
- communications — any emails or messages you send us.
3. how we use it
we use your data to:
- confirm and manage your booking
- contact you about your hire (pickup details, licence checks, post-trip follow-up)
- process payment and refunds
- comply with our legal obligations as a vehicle hire business
we do not use your data for marketing unless you've explicitly asked us to stay in touch. we don't do newsletters. we don't sell your data to anyone.
4. legal basis for processing
we process your data on the basis of contract (to fulfil your booking) and, where applicable, legal obligation (vehicle hire records). for any communications beyond what's strictly necessary to run your booking, the basis is legitimate interest.
5. who we share it with
we use a small number of trusted third-party processors to run the business:
we do not share your data with any other third parties. we do not use advertising platforms, analytics that track individuals, or data brokers.
6. how long we keep it
booking records — including your contact details, hire dates, and payment records — are retained for up to 2 years after your booking date. this is to allow us to handle any post-hire queries, insurance claims, or disputes. after that, your data is deleted.
if you contact us but don't make a booking, we'll keep your message for 6 months and then delete it.
7. your rights
under uk gdpr, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct inaccurate data
- ask us to delete your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- object to our processing of your data
- request a copy of your data in a portable format

8. cookies
the unplugged campers website uses only the cookies necessary to keep the booking session working. we don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics that follow you around the web.
9. complaints
if you have a concern about how we handle your data, please get in touch at myles@unpluggedcampers.co.uk in the first instance. if you're not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the information commissioner's office (ico.org.uk).
